...no, seriously, I don’t see anything. Are you supposed to be able to see it only if you’re colorblind or only if you’re not colorblind or what? Because I most definitely don’t get it.

I imagine it’s if you’re colorblind; I’m not and I can’t see anything, and someone in the thread who says they were colorblind called him mean.

I’d say that it’d be pretty cool if you made the points also accumulate somewhere – so you have the weekly competitions, but you also have a store of them… and then those can be used in some other way ingame?

Also to add some content, maybe you could also allow user-created attack messages? This wouldn’t work well for the image-based attacks (well, it’d work, just not AS well), but it’d be really awesome to have the same sort of interface for, say, Spoil or Insult, where every now and then I fire off those attacks and something new shows up (with the same 1-2 week trial periods)

I’m loving the changes to the Troll.

Yeah, it doesn’t look like there are that many specific changes, but look again. All our attacks are high Attack bruisers with low refresh, so we can just Fap (which now lasts 9 turns and is actually totally worth it! though +1 more offense wouldn’t be bad, I suppose) and then Yo Momma + Insult our way through.

On the RPG forum I don’t even have to worry about whether or not I’ll have to follow up a Bad Poetry with another attack. And with Fap up I can burn through threads in two attacks instead of three.

That said I have an interesting complaint. The best Troll attacks are in the Evil tree still. At least, the most upgrade point effective ones. I didn’t have any reason to take TXT ATTAKS because there’s nothing after Annoying Text to compare with Insult, let alone Yo Momma.

If there is, maybe it’d be best to have some sort of tech tree style listing? As it is I don’t know if taking this attack is useful or not because I don’t know what comes after it. Actually a tree listing all the upgrades would be really, really useful as it’d allow us OCD players to pick which upgrades we wanted and plan it out.

ed: that said, when I made the suggestion that troll attacks should cost more, I meant they should also do more damage along with even if it’s not proportional.

Thanks for this, I always love looking at behind-the-scenes stuff. Do you know if you guys have produced the first browser game… on rails?

I’m pretty sure there’ve been a couple other RoR games. Whether or not they succeeded is another story.

A lot of people consider RoR pretty slow (“Ruby on Snails” is a common turn of phrase) but I don’t think it seems that slow here I think once it’s loaded up it’s just as fast as anything else.

I’ve been designing a browser game in my spare time that I plan on writing in Ruby. It’s a very nice language for almost any application.

There was a game called Unroll (llor.nu), but I’ve never been able to play it because it always seems to be down. The guy who created that now has a start up dedicated to making games in Rails, but I think they’re focusing on the educational market.

Ruby is actually a slow language, there’s no doubt about that. Metrics don’t like. But nobody codes an app in Rails so that it’ll run fast. The beauty of Rails in my opinion is the speed to develop things. I can knock out features in just a few hours of code.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that it’s usually not the scripting language that causes a web app to be slow, it’s the database. Rails is process based so you could throw another front end server at it to handle twice as many requests at once. However, when those requests contend for the database, you’ll find yourself in a bottleneck

Oh, definitely. Ruby is a beautiful language and it’s most certainly my favorite to code in. I’ll take that over speed any day.

If you guys ever need someone to help on this, I’d love to join in. It doesn’t look like you’re having too many problems acquiring more users.
