Photography/Camera help

I am looking to purchase a camera next week in order to start building up a proper portfolio of work in order to impress the college I am applying to next year. I am only an amatuer, and mainly do live music, band and portrait pictures. Upto now I was using a Canon DLSR, but I didn’t like it all that much.
I have been told by a few people the Nikon D40 is a good proper camera to start with, and it falls within the price I can afford. Maximum I can pay at this point in time is £300 or less.
So, is the Nikon D40 a good camera, and where is the cheapest I can get it? (in England) |
