so why do you need to repair .moar files | |||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

FILE ARE COMPRESSED AND LOSE QUALITY AS A RESULT.
THAT’S ALL I KNOW.
WHILE THIS EXPLAINS MEDIA/IMAGE FILES, IT DOESN’T EXPLAIN DOgreat timesENT/PROGRAM FILES.
THEN AGAIN, THIS IS A GAME. |

My question was actually direct to IRL issues, Wyl. Many of my images are jpegs, and I’d like to know just what it is that happens to them that causes them to degrade. I could look it up online, sure, but where’s the human element?! I’LL TELL YOU! IT’S ****TING IN EXCRE-BOT’S RUSTY MOUTH!

The digital universe is a mirage. In the end it’s all analog, and hence subject to corruption/erosion/deterioration/entropy over time. Even with the best error correction you’ll get an uncorrectable failure at some point, even if it means waiting for the end of the universe ™ – .moar files are unlikely to have that extreme a level of protection, hence degrade more readily. |

Aren’t image files just code for turning certain pixels certain colors? Which all goes back to 1’s and 0’s so I don’t see why they’d degrade at all if your harddrive didn’t get damaged.

Well, the reason they need to be repaired is that if you did not have too repair them they would be nothing more than better equipment. |

GTFO, we’re discussing in-universe rationalization ITT.
How is it that a nose piercing is more hardcore than what has been claimed at the ultimate emo accessory, the eyeball piercing? How the hell would that even cause more tears, unless the inner end is jigglin’ at somethin’. |

not all compression algorithms save information perfectly in order to get better performance or speed this is called lossy compression and is used by jpg and mp3 among other formats lossless compression gives better quality especially over repeated decompression/compression so dont re-edit jpgs if you have a choice keep an editable copy in a lossless form like psd if you are using photoshop but like i said lossless compression tends to make larger files and can even create files larger than the original data if the data is arranged badly for the algorithm for a comparison take a wav (generally uncompressed an huge) and convert it to mp3 and to flac and see the difference |

I can almost never notice the difference in quality from compression, but some people really can. If you do it over and over again it’s pretty much a certainty. It depends a lot on the specific file, like all lossy compression your mileage may vary. Sancdar edited this message on 10/22/2008 3:41AM |

The reason is simple:
Your ****ty computer has a very small hard drive, so you burn all of your completed .moar files onto DVD. DVDs have limited lifespans, so file corruption sets in early.
This means that while you are pwning fora, you have your chosen DVD in your drive, running that .exec, listening to that .tune, playing that .divy file and reading that .dtbs in the background.
Bruce Bear just happens to sell a powerful DVD-cleaning tool that only works on part of the DVD you have, so you need to buy small amounts of that tool to clean the part of the DVD that the damaged file is contained on. He’s very specific about such things, using a bunch of high tech tools to determine exactly where on the burned portion of your disc the file in question is.
And that’s how it’s done. |
