This thread is intended to be a serious discussion of GD rules, so I put it here.

I completely understand that there should be a place where people can have serious discussions about the game without being trolled, but I think the rules are a little too strict.

I don’t want this thread to become an “UNBAN ______” thread, or a “Banhammer sucks as a mod” thread, because he is doing what he should by enforcing the rules how they are now. I just think that maybe the rules should be changed a little to not ban someone for making a funny post that might be a slight jab against someone else as long as it is at least relevant to the topic or doesn’t completely derail the thread.

Also, allcaps/boldcaps is a pretty silly reason to ban someone I think. IMO it would be like banning someone for using emoticons in GD.

How it is now, Game Discussion should be renamed to BANZONE: IF YOU ARE A FUNNY OR GOOD POSTER POST HERE TO BE BANNED.

Many of the things people are banned for are petty things that don’t affect the thread as a whole at all. I think that if you are going to ban people for obvious jokes at the expense of someone who takes the internet too seriously in a game about trolling, it gets a little gay.

I think Banhammer said it well with a post about how everyone had to type “I am not easily offended” before coming on the site. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think trolling should be encouraged in Game Discussion, and I think that threads with specific game-related questions should be left alone but come on, sometimes a little blank line spam or not so subtle jabs against people are funny.

I agree and was actually thinking this earlier. Unless someone is derailing GD I don’t see the point in banning someone because of one post that has no overall effect on the thread or forum.

It’s also kind of a bummer how people get accused of trolling in GD whenever their post isn’t really polite/nice. People can be posting seriously and still not be nice…

I realize an all or nothing rule is easier to enforce, but it isn’t always fair for someone to lose visits/play time because of technical rule breaking/silly post in GD.

The post which FAIL specifically links to is in a thread about the history of Forumwarz which contains tidbits about how Forumwarz the site has changed over time. The post itself does nothing to contribute to the site’s significant history and all it does is insult a user.

I almost didn’t link to that post because I didn’t want it to be about Leechbait, that was just a recent example of a post that I thought was harmless.

But since you mentioned it, IMO things that happen in flamebate are just as notable fwz happenings as things that happen in dom, or klan changes, and things like that. I think when the creator of the game says you are being bumhurt and leave the site, it is a pretty notable thing to write about…

Anyway, I guess I don’t have a very valid argument I just think too many people take the internet seriously when they shouldn’t. I wouldn’t give a **** if someone posted something calling me bumhurt, or changed my avatar, or posted blankline spam, or trolled any of my threads so I don’t think other people should care either. But they do, so I guess **** me.

it’s not that we (i) want to blank line spam, post gay porn, and completely turn game disscussion into a trollhole where we flame the **** out of each other, i just hate having to change my personality ever time i enter game disscussion

let me give you an example. when i disagree with someone, i might tend to use something like sarcasm, or exaggerated hypotheticals, and the like to break down someone’s argument. now, if someone gets bumhurt because i get sbumy at them in game disscussion, then maybe they weren’t entirely truthful when they said “I am not easily offended”. If not allowing mild/funny trolling, we should at least allow allcaps posts. Banning on the count of those is just ridiculous.

I don’t know who or what FAIL is referring to but I agree that just because someone isn’t saying something nice or is saying something contrary does not auctomatically mean they are trolling. Trolling is specific actions done with the intent to incite a negative response and derail the thread. You can be a total **** or bumhole while being on topic and not derailing the thread. If saying something that might be a bit mean but on topic is banworthy then maybe it should be renamed happy fun zone no meaniez allowed or something.
