reasons: without modies it’d just be a last minute pistachio/lemon/vanilla run or last minute raids and whoever could do that would win.

Because getting rid of cards altogether would diminish the potential for variation, which would greatly diminish the fun.
On the other hand, getting rid of modest improvements would increase the variation. I’m not saying I necessarily agree with it, but it definitely has potential. |
